PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Seismic Surveys (SSI) provided pre-construction survey and vibration monitoring services at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection during expansion and renovations at the museum. Dumbarton Oaks is an institute of Harvard University dedicated to supporting scholarship internationally in Byzantine, Garden and Landscape, and Pre-Columbian studies.
SSI was engaged by Jacobs Facilities, the owner’s representative. Whiting Turner performed the construction activities. During the design phase of the project, SSI conducted background vibration measurements and developed a vibration control program for the protection of historic facilities and antiquities in the museum. SSI conducted a pre-construction survey of eight historic museum and administrative buildings on the property adjacent to the construction area. SSI operated seismographs for the protection of adjacent buildings and the sensitive materials inside. Analyzed vibration and airblast data and prepared a formal report of findings.
